The Fresh Start Amnesty Program

Yesterday, Marshal Nathan Keller, along with Judges Jamie Bice and Ron Richard, hosted members of our local clergy, the Calcasieu District Attorney’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Office of Juvenile Justice Services, Lake Charles City Council, Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Ward 4 Marshal’s Office, Lake Charles City Prosecutor’s Office, and several local attorneys.

During this meeting, leaders were provided with detailed information about the upcoming Fresh Start Amnesty Program so they can help share this important opportunity within the community.

The Fresh Start Amnesty Program has the potential to assist thousands of individuals who have one or more outstanding traffic tickets or misdemeanor criminal charges. This program offers a valuable opportunity for eligible participants to resolve outstanding matters and move forward.

There will be another public meeting Thursday, February 19th at Lake Charles City Court at 5:30pm. Anyone wanting more information is welcome to attend.

NEW SENIOR CENTER PAVILION

The new pavilion at the Lake Charles Senior Center was recently finished. We were proud to host their first event there. We enjoyed the burger and all the fixings. It was wonderful to see so many people having a great time outside listening to music, playing horseshoes, socializing, and of course, enjoying good food.

It's been a busy day for us. We started off with Lake Area Runners Contraband 5 Miler and Gator Fest at LaGrange High School. Then off to the Lake Charles Event Center for Lake Area Industry Alliance paint recycling event. Then to Christus Ochsner Lake Area Hospital for the Family Day and NICU Reunion.

3rd Annual "Plates of Purpose"

Marshal Nathan Keller and the Ward 3 Marshal's Office hosted their 3rd Annual “Plates of Purpose.

Members of the law enforcement community from across Calcasieu Parish came together to provide and deliver almost 800 meals to senior citizens across the parish who may not otherwise had a hot meal today. This event also gives our seniors a moment to interact with a member of the law enforcement community and allow that officer an opportunity to check on that senior citizen as well.

We'd like to offer a special thank you to those local businesses who made this possible. Navarre Chevrolet, Fatboyz Kitchen Table, Louisiana Seafood, Knights of Peter Claver Lake Charles, Paradise Daiquiris, CenterWell, and U-Haul Moving and Storage. We could not do any of this without the help of our Volunteers from SOWELA Technical Community College who come each year to help us put it all together for our seniors and the City of Lake Charles for the use of the Lake Charles Event Center.

This holiday season, the Ward 3 Marshal's Office and the Nathan T. Keller Foundation have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of so many. Together, we participated in numerous toy drives, giveaways, and personally delivered food to families in need. Seeing the smiles on children’s faces and knowing we could bring a little warmth and joy to our neighbors truly reminds us what this season is all about—giving, compassion, and community.

"Bing with a Purpose"

The vision of “Bingo with a Purpose” was to provide numerous resources to our seniors while also allowing them to engage with other seniors, local dignitaries, and members of law enforcement.

Today we made a difference in our community with the support of Marshal Nathan Keller, his deputies, the many volunteers, and the numerous vendors coming together to help in so many ways. Everyone that attended “Bingo with a Purpose” received 3 meals while they were there and left with a bag of groceries. THANK YOU to our sponsors who offered up much needed help and guidance with everything from Health Insurance needs, support, help with hearing aids, identity theft, wills and successions, basic healthcare needs, vaccinations, and much more. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit our neighbors in South East Louisiana who were affected by Hurricane Francine. We're grateful to United Way of Southwest Louisiana and Mockler Beverage of Lake Charles for generously providing pallets of water and Prime Hydration. Our stops in Houma and Thibodaux allowed us to quickly distribute much-needed supplies to those in need. It was a humbling experience to lend a helping hand during a challenging time.

MENTAL HEALTH FORUM

Ward 3 Marshal's Office hosted a mental health forum for law enforcement officers. The session focused solely on the effects of chronic stress in the law enforcement field. Deputies were able to assess their own personal levels of burnout through in-class surveys, what signs to look for, and how to seek help.

CDC Issues Eviction Moratorium Order in Areas of Substantial and High Transmission

CDC is issuing a new order temporarily halting evictions in counties with heightened levels of community transmission in order to respond to recent, unexpected developments in the trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the rise of the Delta variant. It is intended to target specific areas of the country where cases are rapidly increasing, which likely would be exacerbated by mass evictions.

They have been displaced since Hurricane Laura damaged their facility.
